International X25 protocol

International connections can be made through X.25 networks worldwide. The international X.25 offers considerable advantages for such connections.

X.25 connections are ideal for regular transfer of data with several other sites, or for multipoint access to a central site.

Service benefits:

  • Reduced Leased Line costs - permanent virtual circuits over X.25 can be used instead of more expensive dedicated Leased Lines.
  • Fast through put, excellent response times.
  • Error-free environment for transmission of all types of business data.
  • Security features include Network User Identification (NUI) & Closed User Group (CUG) functions.
  • Strong error correction/store & forward mechanisms to guarantee the timely and reliable delivery of information.
  • Worldwide adoption, acceptance & knowledge of X.25 services.
  • It is a low speed packet switched service (supports up to 128 Kbps).
  • It provides a connection-oriented technology.
  • It was developed as a solution for certain data applications. It is not suited for the transport of time sensitive media, such as real-time voice and video.
  • It allows computers on different public networks (such as CompuServe, or a TCP/IP network) to communicate through an intermediary computer at the network layer level.

TE designs the service to fit individual companies' needs, according to traffic profiles, business requirements and existing equipment.

The X.25 protocol, adopted as a standard by the Consultative Committee for International Telegraph and Telephone (CCITT), is a commonly-used network protocol.

It correspond closely to the data-link and physical-layer protocols defined in the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) communication model.
