The first Car-phone Service was launched in Egypt by Arento (Arab Republic of Egypt National Telecommunications Organisation), now known as Telecom Egypt.

Anwar Sadat visited USA shifting Egyptian foreign policy which had courted favor from the Soviet Union for the previous 20 years.

The much beloved Egyptian singer Om Kolthom died.

The Suez Canal reopened after 8 years of being closed to international shipping.

American forces withdrew from Vietnam on Apr 29th ending the war which had started in 1954.
