Participants in CAIRO ICT 2004 Laud Telecom Egypt Pavilion
Exhibition One of Biggest Specialized Communications Events
January 20th, 2004
The eighth Cairo ICT 2004 Exhibition and Conference was held from January 17-20, 2004 under the slogan "The Age of Mobile Technology".
The focus of discussion at the event was developments in the area of mobile technology, which has changed the concept of "moving to technology" to "technology moving to us".
Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Ahmad Nazif, inaugurated the exhibition and highlighted the importance of holding international conferences on communications and information technology.
He stressed the need to introduce the latest technologies in the Egyptian and regional markets, as well as attracting foreign investment in this field. Dr. Nazif likewise focused on the necessity of activating the declaration of principles of the International Summit on the Information Society, which President Mubarak attended in Geneva last month.
Another area of importance highlighted by the Egyptian official is the need to devise an Arab working plan to implement the declaration of principles, and to submit this plan to Arab Communications Ministers at their meeting in Cairo.
Palestinian Communications Minister, Azam Al Ahmad also inaugurated the exhibition. Al Ahmad pointed to the importance of bolstering bilateral relations in all fields and keeping abreast of the developments in communications in Egypt.
Over 150 Egyptian and international companies took part in the exhibition, including Telecom Egypt (TE), which is celebrating its 150th anniversary. Participants praised TE's pavilion, which featured many surprises to mark this momentous occasion.
TE's Chairman, Akil Beshir, said the exhibition is one of the biggest specialized gatherings for companies working in the field of communications and information.
The TE chief signed a protocol of co-operation on the sidelines of the event with Flag Telecom, one of the top international companies operating in networks and cables.
Commenting on the protocol, Beshir said it reflects the strong ties between the two companies, which has resulted in many outstanding services that were successfully introduced to the Egyptian market.
